Henderson is a Western Kentucky county of about 44,300 people on the south bank of the Ohio River, directly across from Evansville, Indiana. It is the only Kentucky principal county of the Evansville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The City of Henderson, with about 27,900 residents, sits twelve miles south of downtown Evansville across the US-41 Bi-State Vietnam Gold Star Bridges. Two smaller home-rule towns — Corydon and Robards — anchor the southern industrial footprint, and a single county-wide school district runs all the public K-12.

Three corporate-parent-distinct aluminum sites operate inside the county and define its industrial layer. Century Aluminum's Sebree smelter sits at 1230 Wheatcroft Road in Robards and runs about 220,000 metric tonnes per year of primary aluminum — one of two operating primary-aluminum smelters in the United States. Audubon Metals, a subsidiary of Koch Enterprises of Evansville, runs a heavy-media separator and secondary-specification alloy line at 3055 Ohio Drive. Hydro Aluminum at 2300 Atkinson Street is mid-build on an $85 million HyForge casthouse expansion with a 2026 operational target, under Norsk Hydro of Oslo. Manufacturing carries 5,459 employees and $336 million in payroll — about 43 percent of all county wages on 34 percent of all county employment.

Three of the county's largest service institutions sit under Indiana corporate parents. Deaconess Henderson Hospital, the former Methodist Hospital at 1305 North Elm Street, joined Deaconess Health System of Evansville on July 1, 2020. CenterPoint Energy serves portions of Henderson through its Indiana regional subsidiary. Audubon Metals reports to Koch Enterprises in Evansville. The labor shed bleeds both directions across the Ohio River.

The City of Henderson operates three distinct municipal utilities from a single shared address at 100 Fifth Street: Henderson Municipal Power & Light, Henderson Municipal Gas, and Henderson Water Utility. Federal contracts on record over the trailing three-year window concentrate in three channels — a $216.8 million state DOT pass-through tied to the I-69 conversion and the Henderson-Evansville Ohio River Crossing megaproject (target completion 2031), $23.68 million across 81 HUD awards to the Housing Authority of Henderson, and $15.57 million across 7 FAA Airport Improvement Program awards to the Henderson City County Airport.

Six candidates run from $75,000 to $800,000 in founder capital. The strongest two are the aluminum-refractory and industrial-electrical outage-crew bundle and the bilateral KY-IN nurse staffing agency under the Nurse Licensure Compact; the other four sit in multi-trade institutional work, tri-utility procurement services, solar and battery field service, and bi-state day-tour operations.

01

What this place actually is.

Henderson sits in Western Kentucky on the south bank of the Ohio River, twelve miles south of downtown Evansville across the US-41 Bi-State Vietnam Gold Star Bridges. The county is the only Kentucky principal of the Evansville Metropolitan Statistical Area, which combines Vanderburgh, Posey, and Warrick counties in Indiana with Henderson on the Kentucky side. Henderson contributes about 14 percent of the MSA's roughly 315,000 residents. The City of Henderson, the county seat, carries about 27,900 of the county's 44,300 residents under a mayor-council form set out in KRS 83A; Mayor Brad Staton serves per published city materials. Corydon and Robards are the two smaller home-rule towns. County median household income runs about $58,500, near 92 percent of the Kentucky median, lifted by Evansville-MSA wage uplift and the manufacturing wage band.

The county sits on Interstate 69, which follows the US-41 alignment south through Henderson to Madisonville and Hopkinsville. I-69 northbound continues into Indiana over the Henderson-Evansville Ohio River Crossing bridge, currently under construction with INDOT as the lead agency and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) as partner, target completion 2031. The Audubon Parkway runs east from US-41 to Owensboro. The Ohio River forms the entire 30-mile northern and western boundary; the river bends south and then north, making the county a peninsula. Adjacent Kentucky counties are Daviess east, Webster south, Union southwest, and McLean southeast. Cross-river Indiana adjacencies run Vanderburgh, Posey, and Warrick — the last home to ALCOA's Warrick Operations rolling mill at Newburgh.

The federal business-mix capture for the county returns 981 establishments, 16,025 employees, $777.2 million in annual payroll, and 2,435 nonemployers. The 16,025-employee count produces an employment-to-population ratio of about 36 percent, reflecting active integration with the Evansville MSA. Per-employee payroll averages about $48,500 — high for the rural corpus and driven by primary-smelter operator wages, technical-trades wages at Audubon Metals, registered-nurse and clinical wages at Deaconess, and the three municipal-utility wage bands. The sole-prop ratio of 2.48 is employer-leaning, consistent with the industrial-anchor structure.

Top sectors by establishment count run Retail Trade first (150 establishments and 1,843 employees, anchored by US-41 corridor retail and a Walmart Supercenter), Health Care second (139 establishments, $115 million in payroll, anchored by Deaconess plus Redbanks and St. Anthony's Hospice), and Other Services third (104 establishments). Manufacturing carries only 68 establishments but generates 5,459 employees and $336 million in payroll — about 43 percent of all county wages on 34 percent of all county employment, with per-employee payroll near $61,500. Manufacturing is the single most defining feature of the county's economic structure.

Three corporate-parent-distinct aluminum sites anchor the manufacturing payroll. Century Aluminum's Sebree smelter at 1230 Wheatcroft Road in Robards runs primary aluminum production at about 220,000 metric tonnes per year — one of two operating primary-aluminum smelters in the United States, with roughly $10 million in 2024 maintenance investment per AlCircle. The smelter sits in Robards inside Henderson County despite the Sebree-name historical convention; the City of Sebree itself straddles the Webster-Henderson line. Audubon Metals at 3055 Ohio Drive in Henderson runs the only US heavy-media separator plus secondary-specification aluminum-alloy line under one roof, processing more than 500 million pounds of non-ferrous recyclable metals per year into die-cast feedstock; the company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Enterprises in Evansville and received the DENSO Quality Gold Award in June 2024. Hydro Aluminum at 2300 Atkinson Street runs extrusion and is mid-build on an $85 million HyForge casthouse with 31 new jobs at full operation, under Norsk Hydro of Oslo, target 2026.

The City of Henderson operates three distinct municipal utilities from a single shared address at 100 Fifth Street. Henderson Municipal Power & Light (HMP&L) runs municipal electric distribution under KRS 96.520; its Station Two coal generation has retired and is being prepared for redevelopment, and the utility is transitioning to wholesale-market power purchase with emerging local solar. Henderson Municipal Gas (HMG) runs natural-gas distribution under KRS 65 and PHMSA 49 CFR Part 192. Henderson Water Utility (HWU) runs municipal water, sewer, and storm-water under EPA Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Water Act, and the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions service-line inventory regime. The Henderson City County Airport at 1860 Powell Street (FAA identifier KEHR) and the Henderson County Riverport at 1755 Steamboat Drive round out the public-infrastructure layer; the riverport's new bulk dock opens in May 2026 per Waterways Journal.

Deaconess Henderson Hospital at 1305 North Elm Street is the Henderson-resident acute-care site of an Indiana corporate parent. The hospital was Methodist Hospital before merger and joined Deaconess Health System of Evansville on July 1, 2020 per the Deaconess press release and Becker's Hospital Review. The Community Program Fund continues as the Methodist-to-Deaconess merger residual, with a $70,000 June 2025 grant cycle to local organizations. The hospital operates the Methodist Comprehensive Breast Center, an outpatient cluster, and the Henderson Clinic ambulatory. We estimate roughly 410 beds, based on regional comparables; the system has not published a current Henderson figure. The Indiana-parent pattern repeats across Audubon Metals (Koch Enterprises, Evansville) and CenterPoint Energy (regional Indiana subsidiary serving portions of Henderson under cross-state-line franchise). Wider anchor parentage runs to Norway, Arkansas, Oregon, Georgia, Australia, South Carolina, New Jersey, Germany, Canada, and Minnesota.

Henderson Community College (HCC), at 2660 South Green Street, is the sole Henderson-resident higher-education institution. The KCTCS member campus enrolls roughly 1,450 students and runs programs in Agriculture, Business and Computer Technology, Construction and Industrial Trades (Construction Electrician, Industrial Automation, Robotics Technician, and Welding), Nursing ADN, Medical Assisting, Medical Laboratory Technician, and Interdisciplinary Childhood Education. The college operates as the workforce-pipeline anchor for the three aluminum sites, for Deaconess clinical staffing, and for the I-69 bridge subcontractor bench. Henderson County Schools (HCS) at 1805 Second Street is the single county-wide K-12 district: 8 elementary, 2 middle, and 1 high school, plus an alternative learning center and a preschool center. Dr. Bob Lawson has served as superintendent since December 2020 per WSON Radio and Henderson Family Magazine. The district employs about 1,042 staff and announced a preschool expansion in April 2026.

John James Audubon State Park at 3100 US Highway 41 N is a 700-acre Kentucky State Parks site holding what the agency calls the world's largest display of Audubon originals and artifacts. Three galleries chronicle Audubon's 1810-1819 Henderson residency, and the museum holds a complete set of The Birds of America and more than 200 artifacts; museum admission is free every Wednesday. The park runs a 9-hole golf course, 6 cottages, a 69-acre campground, a 28-acre fishing lake, and 6.5 miles of hiking trails. Ellis Park Race Course at 3300 US Highway 41 North, just south of the Bi-State Bridges, runs thoroughbred racing and historical-racing-machine gaming. Churchill Downs Incorporated, based in Louisville, acquired Ellis Park on September 26, 2022 for $79 million cash per the company's investor-relations release, with a $100 million Owensboro off-track historical-racing facility commitment per ESPN as part of the acquisition rationale. The park-track pairing, the downtown Henderson waterfront, and the cross-river Evansville visitor flow define the county's tourism overlay.

Federal contracts on record over the trailing three-year window concentrate in a few large channels. The Executive Office of the Commonwealth of Kentucky carries $216.8 million across 49 DOT awards as a state pass-through for Henderson place-of-performance work — I-69 conversion, Audubon Parkway, US-41, KY-9, KY-136, and the partial-PoP share of the Henderson-Evansville Ohio River Crossing. The work product sits in Henderson; the operational employment runs through KYTC District 2 personnel and private prime contractors, not through Henderson-resident firms. The Housing Authority of Henderson carries $23.68 million across 81 HUD awards on a high-cadence monthly contract pattern. The Henderson City County Airport carries $15.57 million across 7 FAA Airport Improvement Program awards. Henderson Community College carries $11.76 million across 16 Department of Education awards. Clarke Power Services carries $13.28 million across 692 DOD and DHS awards — the highest-award-count federal footprint in the county, with a Henderson-versus-Cincinnati corporate-residency question that remains open. A multifamily and senior-housing cluster aggregates roughly $7.2 million in HUD awards across Henderson County Health Care Corporation-Two, Woodsview, Green River Independent Living III, Windy Way, and Redbanks Regency.

Six candidates run the founder capital range from $75,000 to $800,000. They map to the three structural features the data points to. The first sits an aluminum-refractory and industrial-electrical outage-crew bundle operating downstream of Century, Audubon, and Hydro, on the regional Tier-2 and Tier-3 vendor bench rather than direct to any prime. The second sits a bilateral KY-IN nurse, CNA, and LPN staffing agency feeding Deaconess Henderson and Evansville cross-river under the Nurse Licensure Compact. The third sits a multi-trade operator across HCS, HCC, and the Housing Authority of Henderson under the three procurement codes that govern them. The fourth sits a tri-utility procurement-services and facilities-aggregator bundle across HMP&L, HMG, and HWU. The fifth sits a solar and battery operations-and-maintenance field-service operator across the Rock Bluff Energy Park and Geronimo Power developments. The sixth sits a bi-state day-tour operator bundling Audubon State Park, Ellis Park, downtown Henderson, and cross-river Evansville under KY-IN motor-carrier authority.

Acquisition register.

Businesses for sale or near succession in Henderson County. The Henderson slate runs at founder capital from $75,000 to $800,000. Three larger transactions are preserved below as later-pass references rather than working-operator entries: a hospice license acquisition gated by Kentucky's Certificate of Need regime under KRS Chapter 216B; an aluminum-cluster Tier-1 supplier near Audubon Metals or Hydro that an existing operator could acquire to anchor a regional bench; and an Ellis Park concessioner or food-and-beverage operator if any concessioner scope surfaces outside Churchill Downs Incorporated's direct-operator posture. None of the three is sized for a first-time founder.

Some signals, not all

Long tenure

Long tenure, no exit signal yet

  • A Henderson-resident hospice agency operating under KRS Chapter 216B with referral concentration across Deaconess Henderson, Redbanks, and the Western Kentucky senior-housing cluster. The Certificate of Need regime restricts greenfield entry, which makes the acquisition path the realistic way in. Acquirer-track only; not a working-operator opening. Name withheld pending consent
Hospice license acquisition under Kentucky's Certificate of Need regime
    • A license held by a Henderson-resident operating site under KRS Chapter 216B
    • Referral mix concentrated across Deaconess Henderson discharges, Redbanks, and the Western Kentucky senior-housing cluster
    • Average daily census, referral mix, and ownership structure all open for verification
Reserved for a later pass. At today's scope, the nurse and CNA staffing candidate plus the multi-trade housing-services candidate are the working-operator lanes in this cohort.
  • A Western Kentucky or Tri-State regional aluminum-industry Tier-1 supplier — a refractory-services prime, an industrial-electrical contractor with substation scope, a non-ferrous recycler with heavy-media-separator feedstock access, an automotive die-cast aluminum-billet customer, or an industrial-cleaning specialist — positioned to serve the three Henderson aluminum sites. Acquirer-track only. Name withheld pending consent
Tier-1 supplier acquisition near Audubon Metals or Hydro
    • Existing regional Tier-1 supplier with a Henderson, Webster, Daviess, and Vanderburgh labor-shed reach and aluminum-industry familiarity
    • Specialty across refractory, industrial electrical, non-ferrous scrap feedstock, die-cast billet customer base, or industrial cleaning
    • Supply-chain access and a working relationship with the Koch Enterprises and Norsk Hydro parent organizations
Reserved for a later pass. At today's scope, the aluminum-refractory and industrial-electrical outage-crew candidate is the working-operator lane on the Tier-2 and Tier-3 bench downstream of the three primes.
  • An Ellis Park Race Course-adjacent concessioner or food-and-beverage operator, if any concessioner scope surfaces outside Churchill Downs Incorporated's direct-operator posture. Acquirer-track only; conditional on verifying that the scope exists at all. Name withheld pending consent
Ellis Park concessioner or food-and-beverage acquirer
    • Concessioner scope at Ellis Park that sits outside Churchill Downs Incorporated's direct-operator posture
    • Historical-racing-machine count, dining and event capacity, and seasonal-versus-permanent staffing structure
    • Procurement-channel transparency at the corporate level
Reserved for a later pass. At today's scope, the bi-state day-tour operator candidate bundles Audubon State Park, Ellis Park, downtown Henderson, and cross-river Evansville as the working-operator lane.

06

What we ruled out — and why.

We ruled these out because each one loses to a stronger candidate already on this list. Three features run side by side in Henderson: the three corporate-parent-distinct aluminum sites at Robards, Ohio Drive, and Atkinson Street; the three municipal utilities co-located at 100 Fifth Street; and the density of Indiana corporate parents — Deaconess Health System over Deaconess Henderson Hospital, Koch Enterprises over Audubon Metals, and CenterPoint Energy's Indiana subsidiary over portions of the county's gas and electric service.

Cuts below either credit non-Henderson place-of-performance to Henderson, lean on captive-prime dynamics that erase founder margins, repeat a mechanic we have already published at smaller scale, or sit above what a working operator can finance.

Place-of-performance that should not be credited to Henderson

  • Sebree Station and the River View coal mine
The Sebree Station generating plant is in Webster County and retired its coal generation in June 2022; the River View Coal mine is in Union County. The City of Sebree itself straddles the Webster-Henderson line, which makes the geography easy to confuse, but neither of these is a Henderson-resident operating site.
  • NextEra Sebree Solar Energy Center
The 250-to-400-megawatt solar center under construction is across the line in Webster County, despite the Henderson-adjacent footprint. Reference for context only when sizing the solar O&M lane.
  • Big Rivers Electric Corporation headquarters
Big Rivers relocated its corporate headquarters from 201 Third Street in Henderson to Owensboro in 2023 after about 62 years. The Henderson-resident anchor on the cooperative side is Kenergy Corp. at 6402 Old Corydon Road.
  • ALCOA Warrick Operations, St. Vincent Evansville, Toyota Boshoku, and the Evansville corporate roster
All of these sit in Vanderburgh, Posey, or Warrick counties in Indiana. Reference for labor-shed and commute context only.

Captive-prime dynamics that kill founder math

  • Direct supply contract with Century, Audubon Metals, or Hydro
All three primes run corporate vendor-master systems with multi-year sustainment-supply contracts. The directly addressable surface is the Tier-2 and Tier-3 industrial-trades vendor bench downstream of each prime's planned-outage and emergency-response windows, not the prime itself.
  • Direct hospital food-service, laundry, or environmental-services contract with Deaconess Henderson
Deaconess Health System procures institutional facilities-services at the system level through Aramark, Sodexo, and similar national incumbents. The staffing candidate sells nurse, CNA, and LPN labor under the Nurse Licensure Compact, not facilities-services direct contracts.
  • Direct supply contract with Tyson Robards, Columbia Sportswear Robards, or Pratt Industries Henderson
All three carry national vendor-master systems with multi-year supply contracts at the parent level. Henderson-site direct prime access is not the founder lane.
  • Direct Churchill Downs Incorporated gaming-operations or historical-racing-machine supply
Churchill Downs Incorporated runs Ellis Park inside its corporate gaming-operations vendor-master system with national machine vendors and regional food-and-beverage incumbents. The day-tour candidate bundles Ellis Park as a visitor stop, not as a procurement counterparty.

Mechanics already published in other counties at smaller scale

  • DLA Troop Support apparel-compliance bundle
That bundle ran in Carter County downstream of two DLA-prime apparel manufacturers. Henderson's manufacturing roster is aluminum, food processing, packaging, and chemicals — not DLA apparel. The compliance regime and customer set are not the same.
  • Single-state non-emergency medical transportation
Calloway's non-emergency medical transportation candidate ran on a bilateral Kentucky-Tennessee Medicaid pattern with a corridor-specific moat. Henderson has cross-river commuter and visitor flow but no military installation or tax-arbitrage moat; the bilateral nurse and CNA staffing candidate uses a different mechanism.
  • Dual-regional-aggregator facilities-services bundle
Carter's facilities-services bundle ran across two regional aggregators headquartered in-county. Henderson's tri-utility candidate runs across three distinct co-located municipal-utility regimes at 100 Fifth Street — a different geometry.
  • Eastern Kentucky coal-county framing
Bell and Pike sit inside the Eastern Kentucky coal frame. Henderson is not a coal-production county; the closest coal facts belong to Webster (Sebree Station) and Union (River View Coal), not Henderson.

Capital wrong-sized for working operators

  • Hospice license acquisition under Certificate of Need
The Certificate of Need regime restricts greenfield entry and structures the deal as a license acquisition above the working-operator capital range. Preserved on the businesses-for-sale list for a later pass.
  • Aluminum-cluster Tier-1 supplier acquisition
A regional Tier-1 supplier acquisition around Audubon Metals or Hydro sits in search-fund or family-capital territory above the working-operator range. Preserved for a later pass.
  • Ellis Park concessioner acquirer
Conditional on the concessioner scope existing outside Churchill Downs Incorporated's direct-operator posture at all. Preserved for a later pass.
  • Big Rivers Electric pre-relocation Henderson-headquarters acquisition
Big Rivers moved its corporate headquarters to Owensboro in 2023; the Henderson-headquartered version no longer exists.

Frequently asked questions.

What are the largest employers in Henderson County, Kentucky?
Three corporate-parent-distinct aluminum sites lead the manufacturing payroll: Century Aluminum's Sebree smelter at Robards, Audubon Metals on Ohio Drive (subsidiary of Koch Enterprises in Evansville), and Hydro Aluminum on Atkinson Street (subsidiary of Norsk Hydro in Oslo, with an $85 million HyForge casthouse coming online in 2026). Deaconess Henderson Hospital and the public-sector roster — Henderson County Schools, Henderson Community College, the City of Henderson and its three municipal utilities — round out the top employers.
Is Henderson County part of the Evansville metropolitan area?
Yes. Henderson is the only Kentucky principal county of the Evansville Metropolitan Statistical Area, which also includes Vanderburgh, Posey, and Warrick counties in Indiana. The City of Henderson sits twelve miles south of downtown Evansville across the US-41 Bi-State Vietnam Gold Star Bridges. The Henderson-Evansville I-69 Ohio River Crossing bridge is under construction with a 2031 target completion.
How is Deaconess Henderson Hospital connected to Indiana?
Deaconess Henderson Hospital is the former Methodist Hospital at 1305 North Elm Street. It joined Deaconess Health System of Evansville, Indiana on July 1, 2020 per the Deaconess press release and Becker's Hospital Review. The hospital operates the Methodist Comprehensive Breast Center, an outpatient cluster, and the Henderson Clinic ambulatory. The Community Program Fund continues as the merger residual, with a $70,000 grant cycle in June 2025.
What business opportunities exist in Henderson County under $300,000 startup capital?
Two candidates on this report fit that range. The bilateral KY-IN nurse and CNA staffing agency feeds Deaconess Henderson and Evansville cross-river under the Nurse Licensure Compact. The bi-state day-tour operator bundles John James Audubon State Park, Ellis Park, downtown Henderson, and cross-river Evansville under KY-IN motor-carrier authority. Both run below $340,000 in founder-side capital.
Where is the Century Aluminum Sebree smelter?
The Sebree smelter is at 1230 Wheatcroft Road in Robards inside Henderson County, despite the Sebree name. The City of Sebree itself straddles the Webster-Henderson line, and the retired Sebree Station generating plant is in Webster — the geography is easy to confuse. The smelter runs about 220,000 metric tonnes per year of primary aluminum and is one of two operating primary smelters in the United States per company materials.
What is the I-69 Ohio River Crossing project?
The Henderson-Evansville I-69 Ohio River Crossing is a new bridge connecting Kentucky and Indiana along the Interstate 69 alignment. The Indiana Department of Transportation is the lead agency, partnering with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, with a target completion date of 2031. The project is in multi-package construction-letting. The state DOT pass-through to Henderson place-of-performance work — $216.8 million across 49 DOT awards over three years — reflects this and other I-69, Audubon Parkway, US-41, KY-9, and KY-136 work.
What anchors Henderson County's tourism economy?
John James Audubon State Park on US-41 holds what the Kentucky Department of Parks and Recreation calls the world's largest display of Audubon originals and artifacts, with three galleries chronicling Audubon's 1810-1819 residency in Henderson, a complete set of The Birds of America, and more than 200 artifacts. Ellis Park Race Course, just south of the Bi-State Bridges, runs thoroughbred racing and historical-racing-machine gaming under Churchill Downs Incorporated, which acquired the track on September 26, 2022 for $79 million cash.
Who runs the local government in Henderson?
Mayor Brad Staton leads the City of Henderson under the mayor-council form set out in KRS 83A. Judge-Executive Brad Schneider heads the Henderson County Fiscal Court. Dr. Bob Lawson has served as superintendent of Henderson County Schools since December 2020 per WSON Radio and Henderson Family Magazine. The City of Henderson also operates Henderson Municipal Power & Light, Henderson Municipal Gas, and Henderson Water Utility — three distinct utilities at a single shared address at 100 Fifth Street.

How we read this place.

How we read this place. Henderson is the only Kentucky principal county of the Evansville Metropolitan Statistical Area, sitting twelve miles south of downtown Evansville across the US-41 Bi-State Bridges. Three structural features define the working economy: three corporate-parent-distinct aluminum sites at Robards, Ohio Drive, and Atkinson Street; three distinct municipal utilities co-located at 100 Fifth Street; and a density of Indiana corporate parents over Henderson-resident operating sites — Deaconess Health System, Koch Enterprises, and CenterPoint Energy chief among them.

Six candidates run at $75,000 to $800,000 in founder capital. They map to the three features and to the procurement channels they open: an aluminum-refractory and industrial-electrical outage-crew bundle serving the Tier-2 and Tier-3 vendor bench downstream of Century, Audubon, and Hydro; a bilateral KY-IN nurse and CNA staffing agency into Deaconess Henderson and Evansville cross-river under the Nurse Licensure Compact; a multi-trade operator across the school district, the community college, and the Housing Authority of Henderson under the three procurement codes that govern them; a tri-utility procurement-services and facilities-aggregator bundle across HMP&L, HMG, and HWU; a solar and battery field-service operator across Rock Bluff Energy Park and Geronimo Power; and a bi-state day-tour operator bundling Audubon State Park, Ellis Park, downtown Henderson, and cross-river Evansville under KY-IN motor-carrier authority.

Several factual corrections shape the published frame. The Century Aluminum Sebree smelter sits in Robards inside Henderson County despite the Sebree name; the City of Sebree itself straddles the Webster-Henderson line, and Sebree Station — the retired coal generating plant — sits in Webster. River View Coal is in Union County, not Henderson. NextEra's Sebree Solar Energy Center, currently under construction, is in Webster. Big Rivers Electric relocated its corporate headquarters from Henderson to Owensboro in 2023; the Henderson-resident anchor on the cooperative side is Kenergy Corp. Deaconess Henderson Hospital is the former Methodist Hospital and joined Deaconess Health System of Evansville on July 1, 2020. The Henderson-versus-Cincinnati corporate residency for Clarke Power Services — the firm with the largest federal-award count in the county — remains open.

We separate work product from operational employment. The Executive Office of the Commonwealth of Kentucky's $216.8 million across 49 DOT awards is Henderson place-of-performance work; the operational employment runs through KYTC District 2 personnel plus private primes and subcontractors, not through a Henderson-resident firm. The C. J. Mahan Construction $5.15 million DOD award is also place-of-performance only. The aluminum primes' employment is Henderson-resident, but the three primes are not the founder customer — the outage-crew candidate sells to the regional Tier-2 and Tier-3 vendor bench downstream of planned-outage and emergency-response demand windows.
